Capoeira

Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian art form and sport that combines martial arts, dance, music, philosophies and traditions of West African brought to Brazil during the trans-Atlantic slave trade. Often regarded as the "dance fight", capoeira features acrobatics dance and self-defense movements that are performed in a small circle or "roda" to the beat of traditional Afro-Brazilian songs. Today, capoeira is popular all over the world.

INSTRUCTOR

Shandon “Rasta” Allen or “Formado Rasta” as he also known, holds over 33 years martial arts experience in various systems. The list includes Taekwondo and Brazilian jujitsu among others. Capoeira is an Afro-Brazilian martial art which he has dedicated almost 20 years under the instructional leadership of Capoeira Master Cesar Carneiro. One of the main things that has kept the instructor in Memphis is his love of teaching and sharing this beautiful art form with the Bluff city. Capoeira is his passion and it shows as he passes on knowledge that he is gained from some of the most knowledgeable individuals during his many years of training.

Mr. Allen has trained in various locations from Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta , and Brazil.

Schedule

Classes are held each Wednesday 7:30-9pm and Saturday, 12:30 – 2pm. 
Prospective students are invited to attend one class at no charge.

Equipment

No equipment is necessary.  Simply wear comfortable attire that allows for ease of movement.
