Getting in better shape doesn't have to be expensive or time consuming. In fact...did you know that simply walking is a great way to boost your metabolism and work your core? To encourage downtowners to get out and move, Envision Memphis has partnered with the Downtown Memphis Commission to provide an opportunity to exercise in a quick, fun and completely free way by creating the Walk It Wednesday markers, hosting a monthly Facebook contest and offering a FREE fitness class the 3rd Thursday of each month!
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Walk It Wednesday encourages people to get up and move! Next time you're on your way to Wednesday lunch, you may notice some new signage on Main Street... Those are mile markers! Every Wednesday, we'll turn Main Street into one big walking track for Memphians to get their steps in. We take the guessing out of how far you've walked by putting mileage markers every quarter mile. All you have to do is slip on your comfy sneakers and start stepping! How easy is that??
Monthly Contest bonus!
EVERY DAY IS A CHANCE TO ENTER! Each month we give away a prize. For November, you can win a 1-month Deluxe Membership at Envision Memphis to one lucky winner - includes unlimited group fitness classes, daily hours and member discounts on training.
HOW TO ENTER?
Simply post either:
- a photo of yourself and friends next to a Walk It Wednesday marker (placed every .25 miles on Main Street on Wednesdays),
- a photo or video any day of your fitness initiative at work or home
- a screenshot of steps or calories burned from a fitness tracker, or
- a fitness or nutrition related tip that you use to stay healthy and active
Post on the Walk It Wednesday Facebook page and include the hashtag #walkitwednesday to be entered into the monthly drawing to win that month’s prize. The winner will be randomly selected from all the monthly entries!
